January Lunch & Learn at Maria Parham Educates about Glaucoma

Since January is observed as National Glaucoma Awareness Month, Maria Parham Medical Center is hosting a FREE Lunch & Learn Program on Thursday, January 19 entitled “A Discussion of Glaucoma”.  The speaker will be Dr. Daniel Bernstein, an ophthalmologist with Four County Eye Associates.

Dr. Bernstein has been an ophthalmologist for many years and was one of the first specialists associated with Maria Parham in the 1970’s.  He opened Four County Eye Associates in January of 1976 in the JW Jenkins Building of the hospital.  The office moved to its present location in the Henderson Professional Plaza in 1990.  At the same time, Dr. Bernstein brought in an associate—Dr. Cynthia Hampton.

According to the National Eye Institute’s website, glaucoma is a group of diseases that damage the eye’s optic nerve and can result in vision loss and blindness.  With early detection and treatment, however, you can often protect your eyes against serious vision loss.

Dr. Bernstein will educate the group on different types of glaucoma, some causes, symptoms to look for, and treatment methods that are used.  Join us for this Lunch & Learn if you’d like to gain information about glaucoma-- a problem that affects almost 2.3 million Americans age 40 and older, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

A complimentary lunch will begin at 11:30 AM in the hospital Auditorium, and the presentation will begin at Noon.  Please call Lee Anne Peoples at (252) 436-1116 by Wednesday, January 18 at 2 PM if you’d like to be included for lunch.
