Maria Parham Celebrates National Dcotors' Day with A Day at the Spa

3/31/2011

Yesterday at Maria Parham Medical Center, the physicians had the day dedicated to them, in appreciation for the hard work they do daily in caring for the patients in our community.  The day began with a delicious breakfast in the Physician’s Lounge.  Later, they were treated to a special spa-inspired luncheon and relaxing chair massages.  All this was in observance of National Doctors’ Day celebrated annually on March 30th.  The theme this year was A Day at the Spa.  Each of the physicians received a gift bag full of spa-inspired items.

The first Doctors’ Day observance was held on March 30, 1933, in Winder, GA and marked the anniversary of the first use of anesthesia by a Georgia doctor in 1842.  In 1990, legislation was introduced into the U.S. House and Senate to establish a National Doctors’ Day, now officially observed on March 30 in hospitals across the country.

Bob Singletary, President & CEO of Maria Parham remarks, “Our community is very fortunate to have the expert physicians and medical staff members that serve our patients and families. At MPMC, they represent about thirty medical specialties and serve on numerous committees to improve quality and contain costs.”

Christa Sudipo, Medical Staff Services Director for Maria Parham, goes on to say, “We thank each and every medical staff member and respect the hard years of training and dedication they have put into becoming the capable, compassionate healers that they are today.”
